While heading out to the bars is (almost!) always a good time, the thought of stepping out into the cold in order to get a cold drink doesn’t always sound so appealing come wintertime. That’s where hot cocktails come in! Best of all, you can whip them up right at home and sip on the warm, comforting drinks with cozy slippers on, PJ’s, and a plate of warm cookies. Here are some of the best hot cocktails to enjoy.

Rumchata Hot Cocoa

Enjoy a delicious Rumchata hot cocoa that’s truly so simple to make. Heat up some milk, add in your favorite hot cocoa mix until it is fully dissolved, and then sitr in a shot of Rumchata. If you want, top it all off with some whipped cream and sprinkles.

Hot Toddy

Hot Toddies are a classic for a reason: they are truly one of the best cozy drinks for bitter cold nights. Bring water to a boil and pour into a mug. Sit in 1.5 ounces of whiskey, honey, and lemon juice. Stir thoroughly until the honey has fully dissolved and adjust to taste. Throw in a cinnamon stick and enjoy.

Red Wine Hot Cocoa

The title says it all for this one: make your favorite hot cocoa, add in some red wine, top it all off with whipped cream, and take a picture to send to all of your friends. Nothing says comfort like hot cocoa with your favorite red wine in it.

Mulled Wine

Another classic wintertime drink, mulled wine is simply spiced wine that always hits the spot. To make it, mix together wine, brandy, fresh oranges, cinnamon, mulling spices (whole cloves and star anise, cardamom pods if you also like), and sweetener of your choice. Bring it all to a simmer and let it sit for at least 15 minutes and up to 3 hours. Strain everything and then add sweetener as desired. Enjoy!
